CBS 17, iHeartMedia-Raleigh and Spectrum News Team with the V Foundation for Cancer Research As Media Partners for the Victory Ride to Cure Cancer

Local Cycling Event Raises Nearly $500,000 for Cancer Research in First Two Years

Cary, NC [January 9, 2020] – The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a top-rated cancer research charity, is pleased to announce CBS 17, iHeartMedia-Raleigh and Spectrum News are media partners for the third annual Victory Ride to Cure Cancer, a one-day charity cycling event presented by Braswell Family Farms, on May 16, 2020.

“The V Foundation is a nationwide charity that is proud to call the Triangle home,” said Susan Braun, Chief Executive Officer of the V Foundation. “The Victory Ride allows us to bring together people in our hometown who share our passion for cancer research as a means to end cancer.  We are grateful to our partners who help make the ride possible and to the three NCI designated comprehensive cancer centers in North Carolina for conducting the excellent research that we fund.”

The Victory Ride offers a scenic ride through Central North Carolina, beginning and ending on NC State University’s Centennial Campus. Four route options include  10-, 30-, 60- and 100-miles. Following the ride, participants will celebrate together with local breweries, food trucks and live music. All riders have a $250 fundraising minimum. One hundred percent of rider-raised funds benefits cancer research at Duke Cancer Institute, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Wake Forest Baptist Health Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as breakthrough cancer research nationwide.

Byron Grandy, Vice President and General Manager of CBS 17 says, “At CBS 17 our mission is to bring ‘Local News That Matters’ to our community.  The ongoing support provided by the V Foundation for Cancer Research of the important research and treatment of cancer and cancer related illnesses being done here in our region clearly matters.  We at CBS 17 are proud to be media partner for The Victory Ride.”

The Victory Ride offers a virtual ride option for those who prefer a stationary bike or cannot participate on May 16. The V Foundation and partners will host training rides and social activities. Riders also have the opportunity to join media partners’ teams.

“There is no greater honor as a broadcaster than to support noble causes that directly benefit the communities we serve,” said iHeartMedia Markets Group Market President, Alan Kirshbom. “The V Foundation has set a standard of excellence known around the world. It’s so cool to be able to do something so good in our backyard that will ultimately help millions of people. I invite everyone in the Triangle to dust off their bikes, invite their friends, and come out for the Victory Ride!”

“Spectrum News North Carolina is glad to support the V Foundation and to participate in the Victory Ride again this year,” said Spectrum Networks VP Michael Gautreau. “Delivering important stories and information about the local communities in which we serve is a vital part of what our networks do.”

In the first two years of the Victory Ride, riders have raised nearly $500,000 for cutting-edge cancer research. For more information about the Victory Ride to Cure Cancer, please visit thevictoryride.org. Follow the Victory Ride on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at @TheVictoryRide.
